W. D. Snodgrass won the Pulitizer Prize in poetry for his first book, Heart's Needle (1959), which signalled the emergence of American confessional poetry. Since then he has published over twenty books of poetry, criticism, and translation and received numerous awards, including fellowships from the Guggenheim, Ford, and Ingram Merrill foundations, the Academy of American Poets, the National Institute of Arts and Letters, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Two of his books, The Fuehrer Bunker: a Cycle in Progress (1977) and De/Compositions: 101 Good Poems Gone Wrong (2001), were finalists for the National Book Critics' Circle Award. His Selected Translations (1998) received the Academy of American Poets' Harold Morton Landon Translation Award. In 2006, BOA Editions will publish Not For Specialists: New and Selected Poems. Distinguished Professor Emeritus, the University of Delaware, Snodgrass now spends half the year in Erieville, New York, and the other half in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
