General Network Requirements

If you decide to bring your own computer with you to Colgate, please be aware of our general system requirements. Computers sold through the Bookstore closely follow standards of what Colgate Information Technology Services currently offers Staff & Faculty. Systems with lesser hardware specifications may work in the Colgate network environment, but there is no assurance of this. Please note that Windows XP Home edition is unable to use many of the network features, and thus is not supported. Microsoft Office products are not required but are highly recommended. Students are responsible for keeping their computer systems up to date, and should plan on purchasing an operating system and software upgrades as needed or as required by Colgate.

Windows Systems:
Operating System: Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 or Windows XP Pro. Please note that Windows 98, ME, and XP Home are not supported.
Processor: Intel Pentium M 1.6 Ghz or P4 2.8 GHz or higher
RAM: 512 MB or higher
Hard Drive: 30 GB or higher

Apple Systems:
Operating System: Mac OS X or higher
Processor: PowerPC G4 or G5
RAM: 512 MB or higher
Hard Drive: 30 GB or higher

Internet and Network:
Desktop Computers: Integrated or PCI/ISA 10/100 Ethernet card
Notebook Computers: Integrated or PCMCIA 10/100 Ethernet card
Optional for all configurations: 802.11 b/g wireless Ethernet adaptor
