Warranty & Service Information

Dell Computers sold by the Colgate Bookstore have a dual service program: a standard 4 years parts & labor warranty from Dell, and a 4 year service & support agreement from the Bookstore. Apple Computers are covered by Apple’s 3 Year AppleCare warranty and 3 years service & support agreement from the Bookstore. The AppleCare warranty covers parts and labor for manufacturer defects only. Accidental damage is not covered or supported by Bookstore or Apple. The Service Agreement covers all assistance and in-store labor for computers.

Non-Warranty and outside service repairs would incur actual repair costs (parts & labor) as dictated by the Bookstore’s repair center.

Limitations:

  • The Bookstore-provided support is limited to the Hamilton area. Students who leave Colgate’s campus forfeit the benefits of this program (including loaner laptops) however the manufacturer warranty is unaffected.
  • Some charges may apply for replacement parts which are out of warranty or have suffered accidental damage.
  • The Colgate Bookstore is not responsible for any data loss on computers under warranty or otherwise. Bookstore technicians will make reasonable efforts to recover any important data, but no guarantees can be made. Therefore it is highly recommended that all students make frequent external backups of anything of importance in case an unforeseen problem does occur.
  • Printers & accessories (including Laptop Batteries) sold through the Bookstore are covered by a 1 year warranty or as stated by manufacturer.
