What kind of software do I need?
All software, including the operating system and application software, must be legally installed and supported by the vendor, with critical patches, security hot fixes, and updates installed. Colgate publishes recommendations each year, providing students with information regarding what can connect to the Colgate network. Colgate owned computers (those in public labs and used by faculty and staff) run the Microsoft Office products. These packages include Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Internet Explorer is the standard web browser. Applications like FrontPage and Publisher are also used. Hundreds of other applications are used to support various business and academic endeavors. Antivirus software is required, and provided free of charge to all Colgate students. Other security software (such as the ePO Agent) may also be required and provided in order to protect personal computers from intrusion or infection that adversely affects the performance or reliability of the Colgate network. Students are responsible for keeping their computer systems up to date, and should plan on purchasing operating system and software upgrades as needed or as required by Colgate.
